Near Samhain, when the veil thins and the dead draw near, bone rises to the surface of the season, past the costume and the decoration, toward what classical Daoist medicine calls Jing: the deep, inherited essence stored in the bones, passed down the lineage whether tended or not.
What happens at this Samhain gathering?
In this two-hour Samhain e-gathering, we'll explore necromancy, bone divination, and ancestor practice, weaving them into one working for meeting and keeping the dead. Through the doctrine of Jing and marrow, the history of oracle bone divination, and guided writing and ritual work, we'll practice reading what the bones already know, led by occultist and psychic medium, Mimi Young.
What to expect for this Samhain ritual gathering
The doctrine of Daoist bone work: Jing and marrow, and why the body treats ancestral inheritance as both literal and symbolic
The hun and po, the two souls of classical Chinese cosmology, and how this relates to bone-tending
Oracle bone divination: how the earliest Chinese writing began as a occult technology for questioning ancestors
How bone and death imagery shift meaning across cultures and centuries, from oracle bones to ossuaries to sugar skulls
Guided writing practice, working directly against a set of original principles of bone
Why what gets called decayed or dead is often only unattended, and how to re-animate necromantic practice
Emotionally, you'll likely leave less afraid of what's underneath, and on relational terms with it.
Spiritually, you'll likely leave with a clearer sense of what you inherited, a working ritual practice for tending your bones, and a renewed animate relationship with your lineage(s).
This is an optional, but relevant prelude to the 8-part occult series, WRONG: Yin Rites as Heretic, Villain and Perverse.
