What is the I Ching in simple terms?
The I Ching (Book of Changes) is an ancient Chinese system for reading patterns of change. It uses 64 hexagrams: six-line symbols formed from Yin (lines with spaces) and Yang (solid) lines—to describe a situation and how it may transform. Practically, it’s used as both divination and philosophy: you cast (coins or stalks), read the I Ching hexagram and any changing lines, and use that pattern-language to clarify timing, possible outcomes, and relational next steps.
Why Learn The I Ching?
The I Ching is a disciplined, yet intuitive method for reading patterns, timing, and relevant action. This program teaches that method so the Book of Changes becomes a usable divination practice rather than a memory exercise.
A tool for decisions: to diagnose, to predict, and guide next steps.
A rhythm for timing: learning to tell when conditions favour action or restraint.
A container for ethical and relational practice: the Xi Ci frames optimal action so your readings lead to better choices for all involved.
A ritual system: preparations and offerings, casting, interpretation, and aftercare that keep readings grounded and practical.

You can ask any question to the I Ching
One participant used this method to decide on a career move. Instead of worrying or guessing, she worked through three structured readings and a short ritual. The result: a negotiated transition with clearer boundaries and less burnout.
How is the I Ching used today?
Anyone seeking a serious apprenticeship into divination.
Existing practitioners in divination (Tarot, Runes, bone throwing) who want a disciplined method for that doesn’t leave you with more questions than you started.
Grief workers, occultists, ritual practitioners, and counsellors.
Creatives and leaders who use pattern-language for projects.
“By week four, I wasn’t just tossing coins for answers. I was seeing and understanding patterns.”

FAQs
-
No, you do not need to be of Chinese ancestry to participate in the I Ching series.
The I Ching is a classical text and living system that has traveled across centuries, geographies, and cultures because it speaks to universal patterns of change, ethics, and decision-making. What does matter is how it is studied and from whom.
As someone of Chinese heritage, I am explicitly inviting you into this work. One of the most valid critiques around cultural engagement is that traditions should be learned from those rooted in the culture itself, rather than abstracted, diluted, or repackaged without context. This series is grounded in that principle. You are not consuming a stripped-down or appropriated version of the I Ching; you are learning within a lineage-aware, culturally situated framework that honors its origins while making it accessible and relevant.
Participation is not about ancestry. It is about respect, responsibility, and relational learning. The I Ching has always been a text meant to be consulted, wrestled with, and applied by people seeking clarity in times of uncertainty. This series welcomes those who engage with care, rigour, and respect for the integrity of the tradition.

No. It won’t confuse you; it will give you a different, highly structured toolset to add to your practice.
The I Ching is not a competitor to other methods so much as a grammar for reading change. Where Tarot, Runes, or astrology often work through image, archetype, or symbol, the I Ching trains you to read pattern, position, and timing . Many students find the two approaches complementary: use the I Ching for “when/why/structure” and your familiar divining method for texture and voice.
-
While there is potency in cartomancy, the I Ching was intended to be a divination method through tossing yarrow sticks or coins. I will not be discussing cartomancy in this series, but do extensively in the Mystery Mentorship (particularly Earth and Air Modules).
