SKIN CARING: Eye Massage
Gently massaging the muscles and skin around the eyes can improve tone in the under eye area and eyelids.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), the Liver opens to the eyes. Liver Blood nourishes the eyes, but can be depleted by poor diet and lack of rest. Some Liver Blood deficiency signs are blurry vision, dry eyes, or impaired night vision. Signs of Liver and Spleen deficiency can also show up as dry scaly eyes under or around eyes, loss of tone, such as drooping eyelids. Stress and emotions also affect Qi flow.
Massaging botanical oils on the skin around the eyes can promote Qi flow, which also results in improved skin around the eye. This can be moisturizing the dry and flaky skin under the eye, minimizing fine lines, brightening the under eye areas, and even release tension. I use my Eye Serum // Frequency of Mindfulness which contains Carrot, Myrrh, Seabuckthorn Berries, Calendula and Neroli that are formulated in such a way that promotes both an energetic expansion of perception and of our life force.

Simple Eye Massage Routine Step 1: Massage Eye Socket Bones
With your eyes closed, use your middle fingers to gently massage the bones around your eye sockets, moving down to the bridge of your nose. Repeat 8-10 times. This helps boost blood circulation, providing more oxygen and nutrients to the red blood cells around your eyes.
Step 2: Press on Pressure Points at Your Temples
Press gently on the pressure points just below your inner eyebrows and count to 3. Then press on your temples and do the same. This stimulates various facial muscles responsible for squinting and blinking.
Step 3: Relieve Pressure Between Your Eyes
Using your thumbs, gently press the area right above the inner corners of your eyes where the crease of your lid begins. Press slowly and release. Repeat 5 times. This helps relieve pressure between your eyes.
Step 4: Massage Your Temples
Use your middle fingers to massage the hollow area in your temples with an up-and-down motion. Continue for 1 minute. This reduces tension in your temples and promotes relaxation.
Step 5: Massage the Back of the Head
With the tips of your index fingers, gently massage the area at the back of your skull, directly behind your eyes. Be careful not to press too hard as this is a sensitive spot. Continue for 1 minute.
I share a specific Skin Caring advice or a set of holistic skin care tips each month, most of the time these suggestions are rooted in Daoist philosophy of the Five Elements (Chinese esoterica) and/or animist witchcraft principles. Our bodies are intuitive, and when we care for our skin, we’re indirectly engaging in psychic training.
