A Guide to Candle Divination
Candle magic, and the interpretation of the spell working, occurs during the burn as well as post-burn. It can be further broken down into three separate skills:
Pyromancy interprets the flame
Ceromancy interprets the melting and remnant wax
Capnomancy interprets the smoke
Reading the Candle is a hand-bound, numbered guide to all three candle magic divination skills. It walks you through eliminating the mundane explanations first, so that how the flame, wax, or smoke behaves can be accurately interpreted. Then it shows you how to tell whether the spell is working, whether there's a forecast inside the working itself, or whether spirits are telling you to change your approach to the spell itself.

Five sections, each covering one layer of reading a working candle.
Pyromancy introduces how to set up a clean read before anything gets interpreted, as well as a detailed breakdown of common (and uncommon) flame behaviour relating to a wide range of magic operations, including love spells and other relationship spells.
Active Ceromancy and Remnant Ceremancy sections cover melting wax behaviour when the candle is lit, and reading the solidified remant wax left behind after the candle has been extinguished. How to interpret magical herbal remnants are also discussed. These sections walk through spell applications across money magic, love workings, and justified curse work, along with how to recognize when a spirit is signalling that the work succeeded, or that delay and obstacles lie ahead.
Capnomancy Combined with Ceromancy introduces the third and least talked about of the three practices, of how to interpret active smoke, as well as soot markings on a glass candle holder. Cracks in candle holders or ritual plates are further discussed.
The Candle Resists walks through the harder cases, the candles that fight you, and what to do when one does.

The design story
Mimi Young is a Taiwanese Canadian animist diviner, spirit medium, consulting sorceress, and occult educator. As founder of Ceremonie, she works at the intersection of animism and Daoist wisdom in a syncretic practice that welcomes rigour and reciprocity. She offers courses in practical witchcraft, Tarot and I Ching divination, alongside an online coven community and private consults in shamanic mediumship, divination, and Five Elements BaZi forecasts.
Mimi also hand formulates occult supplies using tried and true techniques, ritual materials crafted to amplify a practitioner's own craft. These tools are disciplined, reliable, and non-extractive.

Start by ruling out mundane causes, an open window, a fan, a wick trimmed too long or short, since any of these can produce a flame that looks meaningful but isn't. Once those are accounted for, changes in the flame's height, movement, sound, or colour become fair game for reading.
