What is a Return To Sender Spell? Essential Information Around Reversal Magic
A return to sender spell, also known as a reversal spell, is a ritual aimed at sending negative energy or harmful intentions back to their source.
For those who know me well, you would know that I carve out time preparing the various curricula for my occult courses, online events, and retreats. While I never work off a script, I've found allocating space to cover specific concepts in a specific sequence helps maintain focus and meets the expectation of the given programme. In a Fall Equinox gathering recording, I was surprised when the spirits nudged me to spontaneously share about return to sender spells.
What is a Return to Sender Spell?
A return to sender spell, also known as a reversal spell, and sometimes called a magic mirror spell or boomerang spell, is a type of magic ritual designed to send negative energy, curses, or harmful and otherwise undesired intentions back to their source.
Understanding the Return to Sender Spell
Return to sender rituals aim to reverse bad luck or ill-willed actions, restoring balance by reflecting harm back to its origin. But their power doesn’t stop there, they can also help you:
Release unwanted patterns of thinking
Break harmful beliefs or inherited programming
Clear destructive ways of being that keep you stuck or repeating unhelpful patterns
I’ve crafted a return to sender conjure oil specifically for this purpose. This is so that when you engage in ritual, you can focus your energy on the reversal, not on sourcing or making the oil yourself.
In my 12-part in-depth witchcraft course series, Crafting the Arcane, that focuses on spells and rituals specifically, I discuss a lot about releasing waste and conserving resources. The occult series is a set of thorough recordings, and you’ll find that I share about:
Contexts and occasions for using reversal spells
Instructions for performing your own conjure work at home
Spirit-led guidance on working with this type of banishing ritual
Common mistakes to avoid for return to sender spells
How reversing bad luck or ill-willed actions is not revenge, but about taking ownership of your space, thinking, and behaviour, and releasing what isn’t yours to keep shouldering. It may be seen from a viewpoint of protection magick, but from an outward impact perspective, this work is one of responsibility and accountability in the deepest sense. The group who participated in it, along with those listening to the livestream, have felt tangible shifts within themselves and their circumstances.
This leads me to discuss (again) the merits of synchronized group rituals and staggered group rituals.
We are all tired. And we often feel our voices, or our magical workings aren't loud enough alone.
Casting spells as a group allows for a diversity of spirit relations, skills and experiences. Each participant brings their own network of spirits, knowledge and expertise, enriching the ritual uniquely. This means that the effect of a group spell is determined by who's in it, not so much how many are in the group itself.
Group spellcasting naturally contains an increased potential for synchronicity and also of layered power that is added over time. With multiple people focusing on the same outcome, the chances of aligning with the universe's natural flow of energy increase. This can result in faster or more potent conjuring, not to mention a chance for each of us to lean on one another spiritually and emotionally.
If you're longing for a community of magic practitioners, one that shares and speaks a common heart-language, then call that in.
For some, the online Homing Coven may be what you’re looking for, and for others, perhaps the 12-part immersive study in spellcasting with me, where we explore light and dark spell workings.
No matter what, though, it's vitally important as animists, as witches, as intuitives, as ritualists, as space holders, to have a place to return to and belong, so we can regenerate spiritually and engage in workings. Part of this is to be clear on the energy we hold, hence why it’s important to practice return to sender spells when needed, as other’s unhelpful energies do not need to cling to our own.
Crafting the Arcane: Magickal Spells That Work is a series for those ready to dive into serious sorcery. It’s for individuals looking to integrate magick into their lives—to navigate challenges with greater ease, establish protection, send unwanted energies back to their source (also known as return to sender or mirror spells), and create a life that feels safe and sustainable.
