The arrival of Autumn signifies a shift in energy and activities, visible and invisible. The Equinox is the time of equal Yin and equal Yang, equal measure of both the receptive and generative principles, and according to ancient Chinese wisdom practices, the energy and life phase that corresponds to the Autumn season is the Metal Element. Metal is long found in the mythological, cosmological, and magickal landscape; during this celebration of the arrival of the Autumn season, a tune of harvesting and gratitude, we’ll be working with the Metal Element in ritual through its key functions of:
- Shapeshifting – Metal is forged through heat and pressure, and seeing challenges as transformative opportunities instead of obstacles
- Precision – Metal as represented as a Sword, an esoteric symbol of clarity and inner truth
- Liberation – Metal invites us to let go of excess and chaos, and embrace the potencies of pleasurable discipline and helpful structure
Through sympathetic magick, guided by Mimi Young, we’ll be casting three simple animist spells that reflect what we are currently needing in these three aspects of Metal, and be resourced as we begin the descent towards the Winter season.

- Metal bowl or goblet or cup (any small metallic vessel will do!)
- Paper clip (or any metallic object that relates to giving structure or boundaries)
- Tea (if desired)
