UNDER THE NEW MOON: DECOLONIZING, GROWTH, MANIFESTING

Mimi Young

Sometimes, my own fears and irrational habits surprise myself. I have internalized oppression of general Chinese/Taiwanese culture (not to mention cultural purging that modern China has experienced) and Christian patriarchy; being a female in a white-centric worldview also adds nuanced complexity. So many painful and limiting layers. So much living small and self-oppression. But I'm hopeful. I think the first step is awareness, then release, and lots and lots of patience and self-love. I find using shamanic and ritual-based practices effective in identifying the limitations as well as work through them. (For those who know me and my work, I’m all about integrating the spiritual with practical, everyday life. Spirituality without real-life application is lip service).

I did a powerful New Moon ritual last month and invited spirits allies I have a relationship with, and my deceased grandfather (who had escaped China during a tumultuous and pivotal time and fled to Taiwan to seek political freedom) to surround me with support. It was as much of a spell to commit to personal growth as well as a surrender of me being comfortable enough to walk with my demons and call them my friends. You’d think my personal and professional work shamanically journeying would make me more open to Spirit, but this lesson of trust, trust, trust, is something I am still learning how to do.

I then wrote down some goals - all of which were completely impossible to achieve in my rational mind. They were (in my mind) lofty goals - some likely would take a year to achieve. I had deliberately put down ambitious goals because it was a challenge to live big - to show up in a way where I am not downplaying who I am, where I can embrace where I came from. What's incredible is that I just reviewed my goals these past couple of days (as I prepare for a New Moon ritual tomorrow), and all but 2 goals (there were 8) - have manifested - shifts in how I relate to work, to my relationships, to my health. I am overwhelmed with breathless awe and inexplicable gratitude. I am also pinching myself ever so often wondering why I waited so long to show up fully. What was I so afraid of? How can I call those demons ‘bad’, when the devil’s work in whispering lies is to invite us to explore our greatest truths? Releasing duality, layer by layer, is so liberating. As I let go of what I cling to, my hands are freed to invite new, prosperous, and loving realities in.

Happy New Moon, beloved tribe.

MORE READS FOR THE AWAKENED

A blessed Solstice and approaching Yule! This year especially, I am experiencing resonance to Crone's calling for deep rest, play, and nourishment during this middle winter season. What better way than to spend time outdoors in the cold or cozied up with a pot of tea and a good book. These past few weeks, there hasn't been a day where I haven't received requests for my recommendation for a book on [insert mystic/wellness topic]. Though I am a believer that there is no greater truth than our own personal understanding gained through experience, there exists published bodies of work that can assist us as we walk down our life's winding path. Books (printed or audio) can function as confirming friends and compassionate teachers.

It's been over a year since I last published a post on my recommended readings. Again, the titles below are not in any way comprehensive nor complete. Note they may not necessarily be new/recent publications. They are simply a list of helpful, even challenging books that have stretched and nourished me in one way or another. I also have included, a brief (though likely limited) summary accompanying each title.

The Beauty Chef Cookbook by Carla Oates ...because healthful eating can be pleasurable and nourishing to all our senses. The most practical and most frequently used cookbook in my home for a while now.

Pussy: A Reclamation by Regena Thomashauer ...because we all need to radically self-celebrate.

Human Tuning: Sound Healing with Tuning Forks by John Beaulieu ...because everything is vibration.

Women Who Run With the Wolves: Myths and Stories of the Wild Woman Archetype by Clarissa Pinkola Estés ...because Jungian psychology, stories and images, and the power of the rewilding are pure medicine. Give yourself time to digest her words.

Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand ...because it's time to shift many of our restrictive paradigms towards money and embrace that money is good.

Material Girl, Mystical World: The Now Age Guide to a High-Vibe Life by Ruby Warrington ...because she is a distant sister from another mister and total IT girl of mysticism and spirituality. Bonus is that Ruby doesn't take herself too seriously. (While you're at it, give her a follow on Insta and tell her I sent ya!)

Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind by Yuvai Noah Harari ...because it's valuable to shift out of our individuality and see our species as a collective over time.

The Fourth Trimester by Kimberly Ann Johnson ...because the notion of a woman's body bouncing back overnight after birthing a baby is a harmful, bullshit ideal.

A Year with Rumi: Daily Readings by Jalaluddin Mevlana Rumi, Coleman Barks ...because a few, simply strung words can transport you to another world.

Crystals: The Modern Guide to Crystal Healing by Yulia Van Doren ...because we all have a skeptical friend who is now drawn to crystals. This is an excellent intro book, written by the modern queen of crystals.

Love Is In The Earth: The Crystal and Mineral Encyclopedia by Melody ...because some of us want to get deeper into with stones and glossing summaries aren't enough. My personal fave for a resource book.

I love Dick by Chris Kraus ...because through her feminist humour, she faces her own narcissism and experiences transformation with only imagination as the conduit.

Gene Keys by Richard Rudd ...because it's always helpful to gain insight on our life's path. This book requires a fair amount of study commitment to experience its full benefits and is not for the faint of heart.

The Beauty Myth by Naomi Wolf ...because ...just because.

Please check your local bookstore for these reads. We also recommend Abe Books in the US and Banyen Books in Canada.

WINTER RITUALS + CELEBRATIONS

Mimi Young

winterrituals

Yule may be the most magickal time of the year. The divine Crone rules the Earth and invites the people of the land to honour and appreciate the darkness of Winter and wildness, and to hold space for mystery and the transformations that will soon emerge in the Spring. In Shamanic cultures, the medicine woman/man may wear antlers to invoke the forest deities or the respective animal totem, insuring a season of abundance and peace for the upcoming year. In modern times, we may no longer belong to a coven or have a Shaman near us, but we can clear debris, set intentions, and manifest our dreams through private practice knowing when we tend to ourselves, we are also raising the collective vibration.

We may have forgotten how to live with the Earth's natural ebb and flow of seasons, but we can consciously choose to quiet ourselves this winter season, dim the lights (physically and metaphorically), and hibernate. We can choose to live simpler, to choose a holiday season that may look less materially, but be far richer in all other measurements. We can spend time letting our gardens rest, sweep the dust that deludes us, and dare to give permission to wear the sense of uncontainable beauty that lives in us all. Can we be brave enough to create an inner monastery so we can finally face and learn from our demons? This is the season of Yule. It is the season of darkness that is brighter than any light we are familiar with. The way there is Death; death of our egos, death to our agendas, death to our defaulted, desensitized selves. We enter this sacred place of Mid Winter, by claiming the wild women and wild men, light workers, witches and Shamans that is our natural birth right.

As a way to support your practice, CEREMONIE is now offering 20% OFF our entire shamanic skin + aura care collection until 27, 2017.  Enter promo code WINTERSOLSTICE.

"Gather we as old year ends
together here with knowing friends
as the New Year passes by
open up our magic eyes.

Ancient mother of Midwinter,
watcher over life and death,
the one who rebirths the world,
be with us on this longest night!
See us through the dark hours
and stand with us
as dawn births the promise of new life.
So mote it be!" -- Susan Peznecker

WHAT SAMHAIN (OCTOBER 31) MEANS TODAY

Mimi Young

samhainritual

Samhain (pronounced as 'sow-in'), is originally a Gaelic pagan festival marking the end of the harvest season (summer) and beginning of the 'darker half' of the year (winter). It is traditionally celebrated from sunset on October 31, and is also known as the start of the new year for pagans. The veil between this physical reality and other realities are thinnest during Samhain. For this reason, witches, shamans, seers, prophets, medicine people, and the like conventionally seek to connect with ancestors, plant spirits, power animals, angels, and otherworldly beings. Though much of what is understood and practiced of this immensely spiritual and powerful season is lost to the masses (the reasons for this can be discussed in another blog post), I'd like to share a few points about Samhain that is still relevant for those who seek spiritual (and practical) meaning today.

1. The weeks leading up to October 31 is a prime time to discern what it is that you would like to have clarity on, resolve, or experience significant change. On the Samhain Sabbat, via shamanic or Wiccan ritual, prayer or even quiet visualization, set your intention. Invite your ancestors, angels, animal or plant totems to assist in manifesting the intention. Remember, magic is all about intention.

2. As a general Samhain practise, use this time to connect with your spirit allies. Say hello to them. Thank them for being with you. Use this opportunity to also say goodbye to energies and themes that no longer serve you. Commit to making choices that support your highest and best.

3. Samhain involves two key themes - to acknowledge and appreciate the year's work and abundance, and to allow what is necessary in the Earth and one's life to pass onto another form, traditionally symbolized as death (as the Death card in the Tarot tradition). To give oneself the permission to acknowledge death in one way or another is immensely empowering, nourishing, and liberating. Death is indispensable in the cycle of life. Rebirth is the natural outcome. As the saying goes, the Tomb becomes the Womb.

4. The Samhain Sabbat is when God is within the Goddess (the two are united) in the Underworld. Both archetypically romantic and neutralizing (as in the balancing of Yin and Yang), consider what you would like to give tenderness to or balancing in your life. To further the symbols of Crone and Hunter reigning together, what have you mastered or would like to master?

5. Use this time to physically and spiritually clean your home and possessions. Declutter, smudge, chant, and anoint. Physical manifesting is optimized when thoughtful actions are consistently taken and physical space welcomes it.

6. Honour your holy of holies - your gloriously beautiful body - your personal, sacred temple. Eat and drink gently, bathe in salts and herbs, apply healing facial and body oils, and speak tenderly to yourself no matter what, cast spells, and embark on shamanic journeys (or seek a shamanic practitioner who can do so for you). Start and end the pagan new year with the commitment of self-compassion. Let your highest vibration attract both the purest of deaths and most divine of rebirths.

So mote it be.

SPONTANEITY AS MEDICINE

Mimi Young

“Full spontaneity is a guarantee of honest expression of the nature and the style of the freely functioning organism, and of its uniqueness. Both words, spontaneity and expressiveness, imply honesty, naturalness, truthfulness, lack of guile, non-imitativeness, etc., because they also imply a non-instrumental nature of the behavior, a lack of wilful ‘trying’, a lack of effortful striving or straining, a lack of interference with the flow of the impulses and the free ‘radioactive’ expression of the deep person.” -- Abraham Maslow

The excerpt above is a reminder of how the spontaneous is creative, beautiful, authentic, magical, inspiring, wildly romantic, simple, graceful, and dare I say, healing? I hold the intention for us to grow together, individually and collectively, and embrace the spontaneous as an integral part of higher consciousness. The plant allies leave us with this potently simple mantra, “I allow.”

Support your aura cleansing, meditation, waxing moon intentions, dedication of sacred space, and honouring of your higher consciousness with our Sacred Smudge Mist!

BOTANICAL SPOTLIGHT: ROSE

Mimi Young

Nothing comes close to the warmth, the richness, and the sheer romance of the rose. There are 250+ species and many thousands more of hybrids of rose. Rose damascena and Rosa centifolia are the two most common varietals for extraction into what we know as rose absolute and rose otto.

In Bulgaria and Turkey, among the fine, artisanal farmers and distillers, the rose blossoms of Rosa damascena bloom mid spring, and are harvested by hand in the time-honoured way, of being nipped just below the calyx. Collection of the flower take place early morning, while the dew is still on the petals. Like fine tea leaf collection, these details affect the beneficial compounds and the subtleties in scent. Roughly 4000 kilograms of rose petals yield 1 kilogram of oil.

Rose distillate (the hydrophilic component) and oil (the lypophic) softens, hydrates, and offers a gentle toning function that helps to strengthen the collagen-elastic network in all skin types, with dry, mature, and sensitive types benefitting the most. Rose also contains vulnerary (cell regenerative) compounds, making it suited to aging, sun-damaged, and skin with broken capillaries. Given that Trimaran Botanicals offers a ceremonial and shamanic experience to beauty, rose is also chosen to support the spirit. Rose, vibrating the highest in energetic frequency in the plant kingdom, is invaluable for assisting in the balance of anxiety, upheaval, shock, resentment, lack of trust, lack of self-love, and other emotional toxicity. Anointing a drop of pure rose otto (rose oil distilled solvent-free) on the sternum (the heart chakra), along with mantra work, can deeply soothe the heartbroken.

I’ll end by sharing the latest mantra Rose, the plant spirit, offers; recite it while using our Hydrosol (Facial Toner) and/or Facial Serum Concentrate for dry/mature/sensitive skin types,

“Tenderly, I see. Tenderly, I speak. Tenderly, I do. Tenderly, I am.”

WHY CEREMONIAL SKINCARE?

Mimi Young

I feel that nowadays even though we have the internet on our phones - I mean we can’t even leave our house or go the washroom without our phones - we like to think we are connected. But I’m not so sure if we are - I think we have been afforded convenience to the point that instant gratification is perceived as a human right - but I think we are more disconnected than ever, especially with ourselves. I hope that Trimaran Botanicals is something that people can experience with themselves, to continue their own self dialogue, to come home to themselves, so that they can then truly connect back outside of themselves from a “whole” holistic place.

And how and where to start? Start small. Choose a shamanically made product and its accompanying mantra, and begin honouring the inner self while manifesting the outer.

PSYCHEDELICS AND SPIRITUALITY

Mimi Young

What is at first a cup of sorrow becomes at last immortal wine.
— Gita

On letting go… The spirits spoke today, and being our plant allies, they insist that I share. Though speaking collectively, Jasmine, the flower associated with the Divine Feminine, acts as the voice for this particular, uplifting message,

"What you see presently is but a glimmer of an eternal, ever expanding landscape, and for this reason, your current picture is both temporary and mercurial. We invite to approach any disappointment, rejection, abandonment, betrayal and isolation as a limiting belief rather than a mere feeling. These judgments keep you trapped in a story of loss that does not serve your highest interest. You plant allies and animal spirits invite you to make room for the joyful unknown and to courageously speak love to your cells so that the negative beliefs can be identified, healthily processed and laid to rest."

And so I will end today's post with this mantra,
"I love myself when I hate myself."

We approach beauty differently. Vegan, toxin-free, filler-free is a given and a basic, human right. We integrate the spirit with the skin so that beauty AND well-being is tangibly experienced. SPIRITUAL READS FOR PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT

Alice Ko

Working shamanically with clients who are seeking balance in their skin and in their heart-of-hearts, the most common request I get is a recommended reading list. I am reluctant to share a top 5 or 10 - it seems too definitive, elitist even - but having reflected on my own path and which written pieces have served as a beacon while disoriented, searching, or simply wanting to expand my personal portfolio of reference material. There is no greater truth than our own personal truths discovered through experience; nothing should ever replace that, but certain published work can be as instrumental as a thick coat on a long, trek through gusty, snowy terrain, as nurturing as an understanding shoulder when we are heartbroken, or as satisfying as a second helping of a favourite dessert. Books and other resources are external confirmations, letting us know that we are part of a collective, that the most personal within is also the most universal.

The recommended readings below are not in any way comprehensive or complete. They simply are a lovely list of helpful books. I also added, in a rather limited fashion, a summary to each title.

How to Become An Adult by David Richo ...because (functional) adulting can be hard.

Journey of Souls by Michael Newton ...because we all wonder what happens after we die.

Power Vs Force by David R Hawkins and Teddy Carney ...because there is a distinct difference between power and force, and how vibration affects everything.

Banished Knowledge: Facing Childhood Injuries by Alice Miller ...because we all have something to grieve and release.

Plant Spirit Medicine by Eliot Cowan ...because plant spirits are real!

The Field and The Intention Experiment by Lynne McTaggart ...because intentions are more powerful than you realize.

Healing Wise by Susun Weed ...because the future is female and because common, local herbs are our allies.

The Anatomy of the Spirit by Carolyn Myss … because the spirit and the physical body are one.

The Archival Revival by Terence McKenna ...because… just because!

Best Tarot Practises by Marcia Masino ...because Tarot is a useful tool for exploration and self-discovery.

The Gifts of Imperfection by Brene Brown ...because we all need to learn how to share and be vulnerable.

Animal Speak by Ted Andrews ...because animal medicine is a real thing.

Please also check your local bookstore for these reads. We recommend Abe Books in the US and Banyen Books in Canada.

We would be so honoured to support and help integrate while you walk on your life’s path. If you feel called to receive a Shamanic Reading because you are seeking balance in the physical, emotional, or etheric self and desire clarity, encouragement, insight, and self-compassion, or even are simply curious, we invite you to book a Shamanic Reading
